The renowned American oboist Nancy Ambrose King is Professor of Oboe at the University of Michigan. She is the first-prize winner of the Third New York International Competition for Solo Oboists, held in 1995. She has appeared as soloist throughout the United States and abroad, including performances with the St. Petersburg, Russia, Philharmonic, the Tokyo Chamber Orchestra and the New York String Orchestra. The American Record Guide wrote: “Marvelously evocative, full of character, sultry and seductive, with a soft-spoken, utterly supple tone, and as musically descriptive as any I have heard… a fine exhibition of thoroughly musical oboe playing”
Ms. King will perform an All-American Programme, a concert featuring expressive and colourful music by four American composers. From early music with a modern twist in Re:pair by Alex Sharpio to raw emotions in Alyssa Morris’ Ruminations, the rhythmic summer vibes in Summer Song by Miguel del Aguila and the playfulness of Three Oboes Rondo by Jeffrey Agrell. She will be accompanied by Calefax oboist Oliver Boekhoorn, pianist Tobias Borsboom and a student from the University of Michigan School of Music, Theatre and Dance.
