From 24 June to 4 July, Calefax will travel to Curaçao, Bonaire and Aruba with presenter and author Milouska Meulens and singer Juliana Martina, performing a series of concerts and workshops.
They will perform Atardi in the Diaspora. A story told through music, words and personal history, about navigating life across diverse cultural landscapes. In Atardi in the Diapsora, we follow Milouska Meulens, who reflects on her Curaçaoan roots and her enduring connection to the Caribbean islands while residing in the Netherlands. Accompanied by the Calefax and Juliana Martina, Milouska intertwines European classical music with Curaçaoan compositions to create a unified musical narrative. Central to this is the word ‘Atardi’.
Atardi in the Diaspora is a Calefax production created in close collaboration with the Curaçao Art Circle and Teatro KadaKen. This project is supported by Amsterdams Fonds voor de Kunsten, Fonds Podiumkunsten, de Subsidieregeling Maatschappelijke initiatieven trans-Atlantisch slavernijverleden voor het Caribisch deel van het Koninkrijk, Cultuurfonds Caribisch Gebied and het Letterenfonds.
