Finally, we tumble through Romanticism into the world of opera, ending with the grand infatuation Nasr conceived for a Soviet composer he still affectionately calls Shoske. Wherever Ramsey’s fascination takes him, he knows he has the support of Calefax: the adventurous reed players also make their own brilliant arrangements of existing music. In short, an evening full of Guillaume de Machaut, Gombert, Schumann, Puccini, Shostakovich and new works by Joey Roukens. And maybe Nasr himself will sing a song.
