Uğurcan Öztekin (Turkey) is the winner of our international composers competition for reed quintet. He won the first prize with his composition Conference of the Birds Amsterdam .
The winner was announced in Amsterdam on Saturday evening 28 December 2019 by jury-chairman Yannis Kyriakides at Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ during the annual PAN Festival.
The jury consisted of all five musicians from Calefax with composer Yannis Kyriakides as external chairman. All submissions were assessed anonymously. From the fourty entries from around the world, the jury has chosen the work of this composer.
Uğurcan Öztekin won the sum of € 2.000 for the winning composition. The premiere of Conference of the Birds Amsterdam will take place during PAN ’20 on 28 December 2020 in Muziekgebouw aan ‘t IJ. In addition, the winning composition will be performed by various other reed quintets around the world in the year 2020, among which Nexus Reed Quintet (CH) en Splinter Reeds (USA).
