Discover 40 reed quintets
with LINK

Calefax  |  October 10, 2025

From Sunday 12 October, you can enjoy LINK, a special anniversary project by the Calefax Reed Quintet, online for 40 days. LINK is a piece written especially for Calefax’s 40th anniversary by Michel van der Aa. No fewer than 40 reed quintets from around the world will perform the piece! An online concert hall has been built on reedquintet.net, the global platform for reed quintets, where you can follow this.

40 Days of Discovery
On Sunday 12 October, the first day, a video by Calefax itself will be available. In it, we will introduce the project, talk about its creation and our collaboration with Michel, and provide a brief explanation of the piece. Another nice feature is that you will get to see some special places in Amsterdam ‘en passant’. From Monday 13 October to Thursday 20 November, you will see a different reed quintet rehearse LINK every day. The earlier videos will also remain available. This is a unique opportunity to get to know ensembles from all over the world.

From online to live!
Has this introduction left you wanting more? You’ll be pleased to know that Calefax will be premiering Michel van der Aa’s work LINK during the Calefax Reed Festival in Amsterdam from 20 to 23 November — the event we’re all counting down to. What’s more, 10 of the 39 reed quintets performing on the digital stage will also be performing live that weekend. Akropolis Reed Quintet (USA) and Kalamos Reed Quintet (HR) will be performing on Saturday, and Dianto Reed Quintet (NL) on Sunday.

Seven reed quintets will also give free performances on the Sena Showcase Stage on Saturday and Sunday: Paradise Winds (USA), Split Reeds Quintet (UK), Michigan Reed Quintet (USA), Vector Reed Quintet (NL), FivElements (AT), Sonus Quintett (DE) and Woodwork Reed Quintet (BE).
