Welcome to the archive of the Calefax Composers Competition. This page provides free access to the scores and parts of works that have been submitted in this yearly competition. By putting this collection online we aim at making as much reed quintet repertoire available as possible to all other existing Reed Quintets in the world. Music should sound!
The instrumentation of a ‘Reed Quintet’ is slightly flexible. All pieces in this archive can be performed by five musicians and do not exceed the instrumentation that is required for the Calefax Composers’ Competition:
1 Oboe / Cor anglais / Oboe d’amore
2 Clarinet (B-flat / A)
3 Saxophone (Alto / Soprano)
4 Bass clarinet / Basset horn (a few scores ask for Contrabass clarinet)
5 Bassoon
Only scores from composers who explicitly granted permission are presented in this archive. We were able to contact many but not all composers of the past six editions of the competition. Participants who don’t find their piece here but do want to be listed are kindly requested to contact us through productie@calefax.nl. If you’d like to perform one of the works on a concert, please also contact Calefax, so we can get you in touch with the composer. Thank you!
